How to Draw the Kraken – let’s Get Initiated!
Step 1
For this guide on how to draw the Kraken, we will represent a cartoon drawing of the monster. With this in mind, we can start by removing the beast’s head. We will give this Kraken a big, round head, and you can draw it using a curved, rounded line. This will create a charge that is so unwieldy that it falls to the side a bit.
Once you’ve drawn this head shape as it appears in our reference image, we’ll outline some angry eyes for it. Use some curved lines for the eyes. We’ll use these lines to give it the serious expression we show in our image. Finish with some line details below, and then we can continue to step 2.
Step 2
What would the Kraken be without its tentacles? Let’s start adding some to your Kraken drawing in the next step. As you can imagine, we want these tentacles to be quite wavy and flexible. For now, we’ll only draw four of the tentacles; two on the left and two on the right.
There will be an empty slot at the base of the Kraken, but we’ll fill it in later. For now, use some wavy lines to create the tentacles, making sure you have a pointed tip at the end of each one. Then finish by adding some small round shapes along the bottom for the tentacle suckers.
Step 3
Continuing with this guide on how to draw the Kraken, we’ll add another tentacle into the mix. This tentacle will start to fill the space at the base of the Kraken, and like the others, it will be wavy with small round suction cups. Once this tentacle is drawn, we’ll have one more to add and some finishing touches in the next few steps!
Step 4
We will add the final tentacle for this Kraken drawing in this step. This last one will fill the absolute space left at the bottom of the Kraken and will take the same shape as all the others you have drawn.
With that tentacle removed, you have finished the outline of the Kraken. Before moving on to the final details in the next step, you can add some simple lines above the eyes to emphasize Kraken’s angry expression further.
step 5
Soon it will be time to color this sea monster, but first, we have some final details to add in this step of our guide on how to draw the Kraken. For these details, start by adding some small, rounded shapes on the head of the Kraken. You can replicate them just as they appear in our reference image, but you can also change these details if you like!
Once these pieces are drawn, you’re ready for the last step! However, you could also add some fun details of your own. Maybe I could pull this Kraken in the ocean with some unlucky ship sailing nearby. Can you think of other information or background ideas to add to this image? We’d be curious to see what great ideas you come up with!
step 6
This is the final step of your Kraken drawing, and this one will see you finish with some color! The good news is that you can use any color you can think of to complete this Kraken. Our reference image provides just one example of how you can color it. We use shades of purple for the body while offsetting it with some blue for the spots.
We then used a bit of bright yellow for the pupils to give it an even more intense look. We chose these colors, but what colors do you think would go well with them? Will you choose a color scheme similar to ours or one unique? Have fun experimenting with paints and artistic mediums, and see what happens!
