It’s been over two years since David Dahmer, the disappearances blogger, vanished without a trace. His last post was on December 21, 2017, and he hasn’t been heard from since.
This is strange for a few reasons. For one, Dahmer was known for his prolific online presence. He was constantly active on social media and his blog was one of the most popular in the true crime genre.
So for him to suddenly vanish is very out of character. Secondly, and perhaps more worrisome is the fact that Dahmer’s disappearance coincided with some troubling events in his personal life.
In the months leading up to his disappearance, Dahmer had become increasingly paranoid and fixated on conspiracies. He was also going through a nasty breakup and had lost his job.
So what happened to David Dahmer? Did he simply walk away from it all? Or is there something more sinister at play?
Early Life
David Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the first of two sons born to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer.
His early childhood was happy and uneventful; he later recalled being a shy child who did not make friends easily.
When Dahmer was in second grade, his family moved from West Allis to Bath, Ohio, a small town near Akron. Dahmer’s parents were reportedly unhappy in their marriage and had difficulties getting along. As a result,
Dahmer often became withdrawn and would spend hours alone in the basement of their home or outdoors engaged in solitary activities such as collecting insects or shooting hoops.
Dahmer’s parents divorced when he was 18 years old, after which he began having more difficulty coping with life.
He continued living with his father but quickly developed a drinking problem and soon dropped out of high school.
In 1978, at the age of 18, Dahmer committed his first murder: that of hitchhiker Steven Hicks. After picking up Hicks from a bar one night,
Dahmer bludgeoned him to death with a dumbbell and then buried his body behind the family home.
Disappearance
In the early hours of July 22, 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested for the brutal murder of 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone.
This act would ultimately lead to Dahmer’s downfall, but in the days and weeks that followed his arrest, Dahmer managed to avoid detection for another horrific crime: the disappearance of David Dahmer.
On the night of July 19, 1991, less than three days before his arrest, Dahmer lured 32-year-old David into his apartment with the promise of alcohol. Once inside,
Dahmer bludgeoned David with a dumbbell and strangled him to death. He then dismembered the body and placed the remains in garbage bags which he dumped in a nearby ravine.
For nearly two decades, David’s whereabouts remained a mystery. It wasn’t until 2009 that his remains were finally discovered by a group of teenagers who were exploring the ravine.
They found a human skull and bones scattered among trash and debris.
Although DNA testing confirmed that the remains belonged to David Dahmer, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding his death.
What motivated Jeffrey Dahmer to kill his own brother? And why did he go to such lengths to conceal the crime? We may never know for sure what happened on that fateful night in July 1991,
but one thing is certain: The disappearance of David Dahmer is one of America’s most tragic unsolved mysteries.
Theories
When it comes to the disappearance of David Dahmer, there are a few theories floating around. The most popular theory is that he was abducted by aliens.
This theory gained traction after Dahmer’s former cellmate, Jesse Anderson, claimed that he saw a UFO outside of their cell one night. Another theory is that Dahmer was killed by another inmate.
This is supported by the fact that Dahmer was found dead in his cell with a blanket over his head.
Aftermath
After David Dahmer’s conviction and sentencing, he was transferred to the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin to serve out his life sentence.
There, he worked in the prison kitchen and kept to himself for the most part. In 1994, he was attacked by another inmate and suffered a concussion.
He was then transferred to the Oshkosh Correctional Institution for his own safety.
In July 1995, Dahmer was beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while they were cleaning a bathroom at the prison.
Scarver claimed that he killed Dahmer because of the horrific things he had done and because he believed Dahmer would have killed him if given the chance.
Conclusion
It’s been over two decades since David Dahmer vanished without a trace, and the world may never know what happened to him.
All we can do is speculate and try to piece together the events of that fateful night. Was he abducted? Murdered? Or did he simply run away from his past?
Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure: the world is a lot less scary without David Dahmer in it.
